ryuuhime: (gleeful; clapping enthusiastically)
[personal profile] ryuuhime
Kosuiryo is a very gleeful child. She's almost always smiling and always tries to think the best of people, and not the worst. She can be described is a happy ball of Water Dragon almost twenty-four seven, as she looks out at the world with big, eager eyes that take in everything around her and want to go everywhere that land stretches! Unfortunately, as a princess, she is unable to go wherever she may please. Especially not when she's not only a princess, but she's a Water Dragon princess to boot. As princess, she must stay with her family, serve in the royal court, tend to her people, all from the safety of Ryujin as was intended for the Dragon princess before and so on and so forth. But while Kosuiryo loves her family, her Water subjects, and Ryujin, she wants freedom to leave the waters when she so pleases. To eat all the delicious Surface food. And to meet all the amazing Surface people like Hidesato. She's voices these excited desires herself, and for them, she receives disappointment, as she is reminded of her nobility and of the uncertainty in how the Surface would perceive Kosuiryo -- a beautiful young Dragon princess would be a valuable hostage prize for monsters and greedy humans -- even though Kosuiryo herself braved several months on the Surface to find Hidesato the first time.

But naysayers don't phase Kosuiryo, despite the many "no"s she receives, she continues to daydream. Of the people. Of the kimonos. Of the food. Of the trees and the animals that aren't fish! Where her kimono is dry by the light of the sun gifted by the goddess, Amaterasu! Kosuiryo wants so badly to be a fish out of water that she'll resort to sneaking away to the closest fishing village, disguising herself as a normal human girl to talk with the humans and learn more about the Surface world. Kosuiryo delights in all forms of the mundane -- something so simple as a fork would get her excited, as she would study the prongs and imagine gulping down an entire bowl of noodles. She marvels at the coin currencies, and purchases little trinkets with the gold she's hidden away in her peasant's yukata. Things like sake bottles and teacups she relishes, there is no such thing as a drink Underwater, and whenever she visits the Surface, she always is sure to purchase a cup of green tea before returning to Ryujin.

When Kosuiryo feels scared, that's when she gets stubborn. In an almost childish manner, she stiffs her upper lip and openly questions or attacks whatever is the source of this fear. This stems from when Kosuiryo was little, and how, she being the youngest, was tormented constantly by the pranks of her big sisters who did whatever they could to spook the poor Dragon princess. As Kosuiryo grew, she learned to attack whatever attempt her sisters made, and though she often ended up with bruised knuckles and a tear in her kimono, she learned that fighting back always made her sisters drop their "amusing" game. So she repeats this methodology with everything else, and though she's encountering more adversarial being than her sisters, she's managed to put up a good fight. With the only attack strategy she knows, Kosuiryo swats and hits and kicks and then turns into her Dragon form and terrorizes any potential enemies to the point they up and leave Kosuiryo be, resolving to never have an encounter with a ferocious dragon ever again. This is also a defense mechanism for Kosuiryo. Whenever she's feeling especially scared, she transforms into her Dragon form and waits out the worry worry worry storm, all curled up in her Dragon skin.

When Kosuiryo is sad, she tends to weep openly, crying into her large kimono sleeves, despite all the mucus and the fat, rolling tears that the crying produces. Kosuiryo believes tears be beautiful, and when she cries, she is still beautiful as she believes herself to be. The reason for this appreciation in such a sad sensation is that, Underwater, there are no tears. The only equivalent of tears is the shaking of the eyes, but on the Surface, tears are dramatic and public. Another sensation Kosuiryo is amazed by, as when she looks into her reflection in the water or a mirror in the village, she can see the sadness showing much more clearly on her features. Despite the drama tears may cause, Kosuiryo prefers to express her emotions openly, as she refuses to let anyone limit her -- whether Underwater or on the Surface. Besides, she finds that by expressing her sadness, she lets whoever made her feel sad understand why.

Just as Kosuiryo expresses her joy loudly and openly, she expresses her anger, irritation and other impacting negative emotions with low, almost quiet responses. She doesn't throw tantrums or scream her outrage -- rather, she glares. She stands stock still and narrows her eyes at the offending person or persons and remains absolutely quiet, refusing to give rebuttal or even a comeback -- Kosuiryo knows that talking back can lead to a graver situation if anything's in compromise or could provoke no reaction in the slightest, proving to be a waste of words. Kosuiryo prefers to not even react openly to grave actions, as she doesn't want to provide encouragement with any participation of any kind, and because she does not want to use the same dirty tactics against her enemies -- to be like her enemies? It makes her stomach sick to think of ever being horrible and selfish and so very lonely -- there is not a vengeful bone in her body, as she needn't concern herself with the after, only focusing on the moving on and making that return to happiness and contentment.
